This is my FIRST EVER REVIEW OF ANY BOOK. So pardon me if I seem to gush a bit too much about Marti Talbot's highlander series. However, I simply must express my appreciation to Ms. Talbot for creating this fascinating, intriguing, wonderful series. I am now retired and have resumed my passion for reading highlander and viking romances. I normlly read about 6 books a week on my Kindle. Recently, while surfing for books in this genre, I discovered her Highlander series and read her first book in the series. It was so engaging that I simply put everything aside in order to read the ENTIRE SERIES. Yes, they are ALL that good! I've found that usually books within a series lack consistent quality. But every book in her series is a non-stop page turner. WARNING! It is nearly impossible to put these books down once you start reading. You will gladly suffer lack of sleep and missed meals but it's worth it. Then I immediately re-read several of the books, which I NEVER do. Yes, these books really are that good! However to get the most enjoyment, read the books in series order following up with Betrothed and The Golden Sword.For me it is rare to find an author who consistently creates well written romances where from page 1 you, the reader, are completely sucked into the story. Buy this series if you like stories with strong hunky heroes, fiesty smart heroines, action, adventure, and true romance. You won't find overwritten erotic sex scenes in this series...just pure sweet romance which is so much better but hard to find in today's romance genre where just 10% of the book is plot and 90% is soft porn sex. Don't get me wrong, but it's just so refreshing to read a romance where the characters drive strong plots with exciting action and great dialogue.
There will be no skimming, in fact, you will likely twice read some passages to re-live certain scenes. Yes, the writing is that good! While reading, I felt as if I was a fly on the wall living the experiences of Anna, Kevin, Rachel, Connor, Chalet and Blair and all the other delightful characters. I smiled, laughed and cried with them as their stories unfolded. I even began to keep a list of who was related to whom so I could keep track of all the clan's characters and relationships threaded throughout the series that wove the clan's story together. I even cried with the passing of each generation but became equally attached to each new generation from book to book. You will not easily forget the MacGreagor clan.
Ms. Talbot, MORE PLEASE. I'd love to continue to read about the MacGreagors, the mysterious stallion and the golden sword.

Ms. Talbott I feel is a great writer. She keeps you interested through the whole book. This book is part of a series; however, the 1st five stand alone. Ms. Talbott started book 1 of this series about the starting MacGreoger Clan. She doesn't stop with the 20 books. The Marblestone Mansion series starts in the 20th century right around 1900. I have never been so engrossed with books as I have these.
I must say that I am truly impressed by Mari Talbott's ability to keep me invested in characters. There is a lot of romance in her series, but they are very tasteful and so far they have not entered into the erotic and I hope they never do (they don't need to). I've only read up to Series 3, and the pre-quel but I download 2 when I finish each book. I have not been able to put them down. This series is a must read!!
Each story is full of adventure and romance with some humor and some sadness, but it is still one of the best stories I have read. The way the lads love and care for the lasses, defend their clan, and show true courage in the face of danger makes any woman want a MacGreagor warrior of her own! Such a great series, can't wait to start number 5 and see what happens next! Thanks Marti Talbott for a wonderful Scottish highland romance.
I almost gave this one 5 stars. I love the books by Marti Talbott although I would like to see a little more history and a better sense of time and place, after all Scotland was in a bit of turmoil after Alexander died. I love the fact that her books are lust free and language free of profanity. It is refreshing. I have read all the "Viking" series and plan to continue on with the "Highlander" series to the end. The author style of writing with the core of characters and adding short stories of their clan is engaging.
This series is wonderful! The writing is beautiful. It makes me want to see Scotland... and I'm of German decent!
I recommend starting with The Viking. I warn you to set aside all appointments and be prepared for chores to go undone. Every story contains romance, war, and the obvious love of the author for the people and places. When a couple married I was thrilled, when a child was born I smiled, when trouble came I longed to know how they would solve it, when a plaque hit I cried over the loss of "friends" and at the end of each book I quickly moved to the next. The author thoroughly drew me in from the first story. Like a drug I could not go without reading about these people for more than a few hours.
The only issue I have with this series is one I would classify as an editing or printing problem (as my husband is a printer I'll happily blame the editing). There are several misspelled words and misused punctuation. It stops the flow while it is determined what the author meant. While distracting it does not, nor do I think should it, distract from the beauty of these stories.
Not having read anything by this author, I began reading this series without quite knowing what to expect. I had saved them all to read for an upcoming vacation, however, couldn't stand the temptation and began to read.... and read, I did! Once I started, I could not stop - from one book to the other.
I am not one to tell details about books. To me, it spoils the reading. What I will say is, this is a refreshingly written series of the Highlander Clans in Scotland. Each book has approximatly three sets of characters it focuses on, yet still interweaves others from past groups into the next. It slowly progresses through three generations. I could have kept on reading!
I enjoyed the way this author mixed the characters and the love stories. I enjoyed the fact that romance & love could be found without embarassing details. I also, liked how each title had a number in the series on it, making it easy to follow from one to the next.
Although not a major literary piece, this group of books is thoroughly enjoyable and filled with intersting details of the time period. For this reason, I have given them ALL a five star rating!
